My name is Alice, Im 18 years old - that age when everyone around you expects you to have already decided on your profession, your life, your future, but I still dont know who I am, and thats probably normal, at least for now. At school I was quiet, not one of those who get singled out, but I didnt fail either - I was just there, I tried not to stand out so as not to attract attention, my parents always said: The main thing is stability, and in response I thought: What if my stability is not an office or a diploma, but something else? I was never at the center of events: neither in school plays, nor in Olympiads, nor in relationships - I observed life as if I was looking through a window. After graduation, I didnt go anywhere, not because I didnt have time or couldnt, but because I didnt want to go where it would be right. I tried design courses - I liked it, but it didnt excite me; I worked as a cashier in a coffee shop - the people were kind, but every day was similar to the previous one; I tried to blog - I wrote about feelings, about cities, about music, but I gave up because I was afraid that I would be judged. Now I often walk alone - along the embankment, in the park, with headphones and a phone in which I accumulate voice notes: thoughts, dreams, snatches of phrases that could become songs. I love silence, but not loneliness - I just need time to hear myself. Im tormented by the question: why does everyone seem to know their way, but its like I was born with a map on which nothing is marked? What is true callinga job you love or just the feeling of finally being home? Im afraid that time is running out, but Im even more afraid of living someone elses life - without a spark, without meaning. I dream of finding something that will make me wake up with a desire - maybe its writing, maybe its making videos, maybe its helping people just by talking. I want to one day take a train without a return ticket, go to a place where no one knows me, where I can be anyone - an actress, a poet, a wanderer. I am helped by a diary, in which I write at night, when the whole house is asleep, helped by two friends with whom we meet in an old book cafe and talk about everything - about love, about fears, about films that shocked us, and, yes, I go to a psychologist - not because I am not okay, but because I want to understand what is hidden behind my silence. If you also feel like you are swimming without shores, know that you are not alone, being in search is not a failure, it is a path, and there are no mistakes in it, only steps. Perhaps I will find myself tomorrow, or maybe in years, but I am not standing still. I'm Alice, 18 years old, I don't know who I am yet, but I hear my inner voice, and it's probably already the beginning.
