My Schedule
My name is Mia, and Im 18. To be honest, so far my life looks like an even, almost imperceptible stroke on a sheet of paper - without sharp turns, without bright spots. I grew up in a small town, where everything is painfully familiar: the same streets, the same faces, the same rhythm of days. School is left behind. The certificate is on the shelf, and in my head there is a mixture of relief and strange anxiety. Parents are proud: Youre smart, you can handle it. But what does it mean to cope? Enroll in a local college, find a part-time job, gradually settle into a familiar rut? This thought makes something shrink inside.
I saw almost nothing. I went to the sea with my family a couple of times - always along the same route, to the same hotel. I went on a hike with my classmates a couple of times, but it was more like an organized excursion. I read books about distant countries, watched videos of travelers, leafed through blogs of people who change cities like gloves, and felt: I want the same. Just once.
I want to try something I've never done before. I know it sounds naive. I guess I still look like a chi*d who looks at a display of gifts and cant choose one. But it seems to me that right now is the very moment when you can take a step away from the beaten track. Sometimes Im afraid: what if I cant cope? What if I turn out to be too timid, too inexperienced, too... ordinary? But then I remember how at night, lying in bed, I imagine myself somewhere far away - and a warm light lights up inside. It is he who prompts: Try it. At least a little bit. Just once.".
So I'm going to start small. I'll sign up for a foreign language course. Ill save up money for a ticket to a neighboring city and go alone for the weekend. Ill keep a diary where Ill write down everything that surprised, scared or made me happy. And maybe one day I will be able to say: I saw. I tried it. I lived.".
