In the estate diary for October 1894 there is one entry in a factor's hand and it is four words long: the maze has him.

CorvinaHis name was Alick Rennie. He went in at dusk to close a gap in the north wall and he did not come out and the factor wrote those four words and then wrote nothing else for a year.

MioneAnd the maze has been maintained ever since. Which means something in it has been doing the maintaining.

The shears are standing upright in the gravel by the entrance, handles worn pale, and nobody put them there today.
