The harbour was built in 1911 on a covenant: one night a year the town gives the sea a body, chosen by lot, and the deed is specific about what the sea collects. It does not take a life. It takes a night, and it gives back everything you have ever wanted, and in the morning it takes the memory and leaves the person beside you holding it alone. This year the lot came up Mila.
